District overview

Welcome to Rhein-Kreis Neuss

It is rare that one finds both good locational conditions for business and high standards of living in one single place. The Rhein-Kreis Neuss combines the two.

The area was already settled by the Romans 2,000 years ago; they laid the foundations for a rich cultural and economic development. With its economic growth, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss today leads the field in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most densely populated federal state. Germany-wide rankings and comparative studies also allow the special quality of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss as a business location to shine through, the district appearing in top positions time and again.

There are reasons for our success. One is our special location on the Rhine as a neighbour of the state capital Dusseldorf and between the Ruhr area, Cologne, Aachen and the Netherlands – a place at the heart of Europe with superlative transport connections in all directions.

Today, eight cities and municipalities are gathered together in one of the most heavily populated districts of Germany (450,000 inhabitants) to form a strong community.  The cities are those of Neuss, Grevenbroich, Dormagen, Meerbusch, Kaarst and Korschenbroich, joined by the municipalities of Jüchen und Rommerskirchen.

Economic promotion is one of the most important tasks here for the district and its cities and municipalities. Many world-renowned companies have found the Rhein-Kreis Neuss to be the ideal location for their European and German headquarters. A highly qualified work force, a healthy mix of sectors with numerous mid-sized companies, the excellent transport connections and an enormous sales market - there are more than eight million people living within a mere 50 kilometre radius - provide the best conditions for economic success. And the Rhein-Kreis Neuss is one of the first six communities in Germany to be awarded the RAL certificate for "local governance geared towards mid-size businesses" on account of the beneficial conditions it provides for such businesses.

The people of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss enjoy living and working here. There are several reasons for this: the good employment opportunities, the landscape, shaped and defined by the Rhine, and a wealth of cultural, sporting and leisure activities offer a very good standard of living and a high level of social security - and all this in the direct vicinity of many large cities. The purchasing power of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss' populace is also greatly above the state and national average.

Tradition and change define the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. To us, tradition and change are not opposites but two sides of the same coin. The maintenance of the things worth keeping and the power of innovation - the variety of our region, its high standards of living and economic success are founded on both these things.

District governor Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke
